Welcome to BPS Health Services
We are so proud of our dedicated school nurses, who care for our students daily with first aid, triage, and medication support, while also helping families navigate health requirements like immunizations and physical exams so every child is ready for class. To bring even more resources right to our schools, BHS, WIS, and MTM also feature on-site School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) where Yale New Haven Hospital clinicians offer primary medical care and mental health counseling. Together, our full health team is excited to support your family and keep our students healthy, happy, and learning!

Physical Exam & Immunization Guidelines

Initial Entry: A complete physical exam and up-to-date immunizations are required for all students entering a CT public school for the first time.

Key Grade Levels: Routine physical exams are also required for students in:

School Based Health Centers
We are proud to partner with Yale New Haven Hospital to offer full-service School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) at Walsh Intermediate, Branford High, and Mary T. Murphy Elementary. Staffed by pediatric nurse practitioners and licensed clinical social workers, our SBHCs work alongside school nurses and staff to provide confidential, high-quality healthcare and counseling during school hours—helping students stay healthy and ready to thrive!
School Based Health Center General Information

All students enrolled in Branford Public Schools are encouraged to use the SBHC. Parents or guardians must complete a permission form in order to enroll their children.
Once a parent or legal guardian signs a permission form that child or adolescent is enrolled in the center and can receive medical or mental health services free of charge.
The center is not intended to replace the family's primary care provider. Health care received at the SBHC is an additional service that works in collaboration with doctors and mental health providers in the community. All families benefit from the presence of a SBHC in their school.

There is never a fee for your child to be treated by the SBHC. No copays, no deductible, no out-of-pocket expenses -100% completely free healthcare. However, if your child has health insurance, the SBHC will bill for services rendered.
