Health Services is committed to supporting the health and wellness of all students at Branford Public Schools.
Our department addresses students' medical and mental health needs during school hours through two components: school nurses stationed at each of the District's schools, and School-Based Health Centers offering on-site medical and mental health care at Branford High School, Walsh Intermediate, and Mary T. Murphy.
Healthy children learn better, and Health Services follows the WSCC model (whole school, whole community, whole child) as part of the District's broader support for student success.

- Administering medications, first aid, and illness care through school nurses at every building
- Ensuring compliance with state-mandated immunizations and physical exam requirements
- Operating School-Based Health Centers at BHS, Walsh, and Murphy, at no cost to families
- Coordinating medication plans, allergy plans, and other individual student health needs

School Based Health Centers
School-Based Health Centers allow students to see a pediatric nurse practitioner on-site for common concerns, such as a strep evaluation, with prescriptions sent directly to a nearby pharmacy — often without the student needing to leave school for the day! School-Based Health Center care is provided at no cost to families, regardless of insurance.

A School-Based Health Center is an on-site clinic offering primary medical care and mental health counseling right at school, in partnership with Yale New Haven Hospital. Branford's centers are at BHS, Walsh Intermediate, and Mary T. Murphy.

No — SBHC care is completely free, with no copay, deductible, or out-of-pocket cost, regardless of insurance. If a student has insurance, the SBHC will bill it, but families are never charged. A signed parent or guardian permission form is required to enroll.
