Dear BPS Student-Athletes, Parents & Guardians,

Welcome to another exciting year of Branford Hornets Athletics!

It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as the Athletic Director for Branford Public Schools. Over the past several years, I’ve been fortunate to experience Branford Athletics from many different perspectives - as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator. Each role has allowed me to build relationships with our student-athletes, coaches, families, staff, and community members, and those relationships continue to be the foundation of everything we do.

There is something special happening in Branford right now. Our community is full of energy, and there is a renewed sense of pride surrounding our student-athletes and teams. I’m excited to be part of that momentum and to continue working alongside our coaches, families, and community to strengthen Branford Athletics and create meaningful experiences for our students.

My vision for Branford Athletics is built around five pillars: student-athletes first, education through athletics, effort over outcome, professionalism and accountability, and community pride. These pillars guide the decisions we make and the culture we’re working to build. While competition and success are important, our ultimate goal is to help our student-athletes become better teammates, better leaders, and better humans.

I believe athletics is one of the greatest classrooms our students experience. Through sports, students learn lessons that can’t always be measured by a grade - how to communicate, overcome adversity, handle success, work with others, and respond when things don’t go their way. Our goal is to continue developing “learners into leaders” by creating an environment where students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to give their best every day.

At the center of everything we do are relationships. A quote that has always stuck with me is, “no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” The strongest programs are built when all stakeholders work together with a shared commitment to doing what’s best for students.

Thank you for your continued support of Branford Athletics. Please take the time to review the attached Student-Athlete Handbook with your child(ren), and as always, please feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to seeing our student-athletes compete, grow, and proudly represent the red and white throughout the year.

Go Hornets!

Thanks,

Brian Zaklukiewicz
